Pinery Pointe Press, an Imprint of Global Localities, publishes middle grade and young adult books for children ages 8-17 that are authored by a Canadian citizen and set in a specific physical, environmental, temporal, or cultural Canadian space. But, and this is important, such spaces also embrace a global perspective. Canada is not an island. It is a country with many shared elements, including much of a border with the US, human nature at large, and both global facets of environmental and cultural elements.

Pinery Pointe, for instance, is an actual physical site in northern Ontario on Georgian Bay, which is part of Lake Huron, one of the five Great Lakes, four of which share the border between Canada and the United States. Furthermore, these lakes that share the waterways of Canada and the US flow into the large Saint Lawrence River, which further flows into the Atlantic Ocian. Through waterways alone, the very local site of Pinery Pointe participates in a flow between Canadian and American identities, culture, economics, and politics. Through the Atlantic Ocean, they further reach Europe and its closely connected countries reaching North, South, and East.

Much of Pinery Pointe is a protected Provincial Park, though nearby, by the same name, is also the site of many cottages on its sandy beaches, where mainly Ontario and some US families come to summer vacation. Heading North for a summer retreat on one of the shores of Georgian Bay or on a lake in Muskoka is a treasured habit practiced by Canadians. Such Northern retreats are commonly thought of as an escape from Toronto's city heat and humidity to Cottage Country.
